how to upload video to computer from camcorder (dv tape) with a firewire (canon elusa 80) do I need software?

I have a firewire port but the video only shows up as viewer only. I would like to save it as a file where I can later put it on a dvd or edit it on my computer. I have editing software but cant seem to open it because I cant select the port as the source. Please help.

  1. What software are you using? I use Adobe Premiere and when you click on "capture" you select where you want the capture to be uploaded from. You may also have to change this in your settings, make sure you specify that you want it to capture via firewire. Good luck.
  2. yes you need software... and you need to read the instructions. You have to set your capture settings, tell the computer where to save your video, capture the video and bring it into the time line to edit.
  3. What editing software is it. Movie Maker is very easy to use and comes standard on some computers. Adobe Premier is also a good tool but a little more complex. When you plug in the firewire to the computer do you get a pop up asking what you want to do? If so, choose the "import video" option.
  4. DV tape out-put are A/V signal .You cann't used a firewire. They're for digital signal. You only can used a A/V cable. The problem is that,do your computer has a A/V In-put ? The only way you can do is download to a DVD RECORDER.Make a DVD disc then put it in your computer and download it into your HDD.Only then you can edit it.
  5. I think you mean canon elura 80, I have the elura 65 and have never had any problem capturing with it. I am using studio pinacle 11. When you capture the video, you are downloading and once it's dowloaded . and you make your movie, then you can go to the file menu and save as.
